If you grew up watching Cartoon Network like me, then you surely must have been loved the futuristic Cartoon by the wondrous duo of Hanna-Barbera called "The Jetsons". Among all the really cool gadgets the one that amazed me the most was the flying car which featured in the Intros.

With Aston Martin's announcement of the Volante Vision Concept, such cars may become part of our daily lives in the near future. They have fancily categorized the Volante concept as  "luxury personal air mobility".

Here are some renderings of the concept:

Marek Reichman, Aston's renowned bodywork designer has given birth to this stunning design and he is reported to have had insightful inputs from the Aviation Engine department of Roll Royce, Cranfield University and Cranfield Aerospace Solutions. As per Mr. Simon Sproule, Aston Martin's Vice President, the big Automobile companies like Audi, Porsche and Mercedes are all investigating aerial Vehicles.

Aston Martin says that the current advancements in the field of autonomous technologies means that it's technology will have the ability to fly the Car for you. Fair enough, since not all of us want to be a high flying driver like Bruce Willis in "The Fifth Element".

The Volante will be electrically powered and is aiming to have a top speed of 200 mph(321.9 Km/Hr) and a 200 mile(321.9 Km) range. It has a size designed to fit existing Helipads and its Vertical Take of and Landing feature takes out the need for runways. This basically means that it will work with existing Helicopter infrastructure but be more quieter, faster and eco-friendlier.

The countless hours people spend stuck in Traffic while commuting to and fro from work in all the major cities around the world clearly indicates that there is a huge market for a solution like this. I am however skeptical of the eco-friendly claims of the Company as flying small groups of people surely would have a larger carbon footprint.
